Aspects to be taken into account at the time of designing a site in gxportal

This document establishes a number of technical guidelines and steps to be followed to achieve a high performance at the time of designing/developing a web project with GXportal. The following items should be taken into account:

  • Before starting a web project, establish the corresponding site map and navigation. Build the project basic structure.
  • Think on a design and a format suitable to the topic/customer. Do not use complex diagramming formats and structures. During the design stage, aim at establishing high standards in usability and navigability for the site, without neglecting design quality.
  • Do no use many typographic families or styles. Use well balanced chromatic pallets and contrasts.
  • Optimize project images and graphic elements according to the web to maintain a correct operation of the site in all browsers and in the different connections. Avoid sites saturated with images that generate long download times for the user.
  • Identify the different site areas through the creation of Channels.
Use and create Templates to perform the primary basis of each site.
  • Establish a clear and simple nomenclature (understandable for you) to be assigned to all documents, images and colors to be performed for and/or uploaded to the site. Also for Contents (contents categories and types), Templates and Channels.
  • Use and explore as much as possible the capacity and possibility of action of the different GXportlets. Avoid unnecessary steps not using them in excess.
  • Analyze the different Content types to be defined focusing on the stages to define contents and access levels in the frontend. Make use of the Categories to relate them to each other.
  • Build a correct Regions structure, according to the corresponding implementation design. Always leave a "free or empty" Region (recommended) previous to the one to be finally used.
  • Establish all adjustments/settings of texts, margins, heights and other measures corresponding to a Region directly on the Template, thus enhancing building dynamics and shortening site publication times.
  • To manage the pages and all the different site components use and filter by Offline, Pre-Online, Online, Pre- Offline statuses, thus optimizing action and production times in the project production stage itself or in updating instances.
