How to configure Windows authentication

GXportal 5.0 and previous versions.

This feature enables GXportal to authenticate the user identified in Windows. To this end, it should be taken into account that the user identified in Windows must exist in GXportal with the same name.

If the page design includes the portal access GXportlet, it will display the name of the identified user and will not display the text boxes for the user to log in.

For the Windows security to work properly, follow the steps below:

1. Set up the virtual directory of the GXportal frontend.

Here you will find instructions to do so for IIS 6 and IIS 7 or higher.

IIS 5 and IIS 6

To configure it, go to the IIS and in the virtual directory of the GXportal frontend open the properties. Next, open the “Directory Security” folder and click on the first “Edit” button. In the dialog box that is displayed, select the option labeled "Integrated Windows Authentication."

If the user is accessing the site from a domain that is unknown to the server (for example, from the Internet), two possibilities are available depending on the above configuration:

If anonymous access is allowed, the user will have to select the “Anonymous Access” options; the same happens when the user account wasn’t created in GXportal.

If anonymous access is not allowed, a username and the domain password will be requested in a Windows screen; access to the site will be provided only after entering the correct credentials.

IIS 7 or higher

Select the GXportal site in the IIS (GXportal50) and choose the "Authentication" option. Set the "Windows Authentication" property to True.

If the user is accessing the portal from a domain that is unknown to the server (for example, from the Internet), two possibilities are available depending on the above configuration:

If anonymous access is allowed, the user will have to set the “Anonymous Authentication” option to true; the same happens when the user account wasn’t created in GXportal.

If anonymous access is not allowed, a username and the domain password will be requested in a Windows screen; access to the site will be provided only after entering the correct credentials.

2. Set up authentication in GXportal

(GXportal 4.5) Go to Settings – Portal configuration - Security and select "Windows" as authentication type.

(GXportal 5.0) Go to Settings - Control Panel - Security and in authentication type select the "Windows" option.

3. In the web.config GXportal frontend directory, add this line: <identity impersonate="true" /> below <system.web>.
